BREAKFAST IN BERLIN

There's nothing like a good start to the day? You can find coffee and co. here in our Breakfast Club. The people of Berlin love breakfast and they love brunch. And on weekends, they also like to have an extended one.

In other words, where people elsewhere are thinking about dinner, in Berlin they order another round of fluffy pancakes. But during the week? Then it should be good and nice, but above all fast and not too far from your ipartment door. In Charlottenburg this works three times, in less than three minutes walk – at Olivaer Platz.

Aux Merveilleux de Fred is a French patisserie named after the dessert specialty "Merveilleux" and the pastry chef Frédéric Vaucamps. Founded in Lille, in the meantime, however, the successful recipe around the creamy meringue sells at the most exclusive addresses worldwide. And of course, it's worth the trip to Olivaer Platz in the morning for a café au lait, delicious croissants and freshly baked brioches. The tea room is gorgeous, the terrace the place to be in summer, and the shady plane trees on the square can be an oasis of calm – at least in the morning, with a coffee in your hand. Open Monday to Sunday from 8 a.m. (Olivaer Platz 2)

If you're already in the mood for opulence in the morning, then Fit & Organic By Adriana is the place to be for you. The restaurateur serves freshly squeezed juices (from grapefruit to pomegranate) and delicious toasts (vegan with avocado or sumptuous with eggplant and parma) both inside and outside on the terrace. Sandwiches and baguettes are also tasty and well put together. For those who can't start the day without their muesli, there are countless breakfast bowls and overnight oats to choose from. And the collection of scrambled eggs is also impressive. From "natural" to truffled. Starting at 9 a.m. (Olivaer Platz 20)

Breakfast at the ipartment doorstep in Mitte

Let's call a spade a spade: It's not that easy (yet) to find a good café in front of your ipartment door, where you can get a good coffee and fresh pastries from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. on. Because many places don't open until Tuesday, like Oeuf (Reinickendorfer Str. 110, Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m.). With a distinctly French touch, however, a visit to the café is definitely a recommendation. The Julius (Gerichtstr. 31, Thursday to Sunday from 10 a.m.) also serves delicious pastries, brioches and small almond cakes, but only on weekends.

Does your morning commute to work take you by chance along Invalidenstraße? Then you have a heavenly selection of cafés. Codos (formerly Black Apron), for example, (Invalidenstr. 1) with a delicious selection of pastries, cakes and, of course, banana bread. Baked with regional ingredients and in organic quality. But also The Barn (Invalidenstr. 112 Montag bis Sonntag ab 10 Uhr), MarcAnn's (Invalidenstr. 114 from 8 a.m.) are worth a try in the morning – or a temptation?

In Mitte, there are countless breakfast cafés. Many even have guaranteed Instagram success, such as at the House of Small Wonder (Auguststr. 11-13, Monday to Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

But if you're in the mood for a solid, very good breakfast, and you want to avoid stacked pancakes and just eat very well-made scrambled or fried eggs instead, head straight to Café Einstein at the Brandenburger Tor. Decorated in Viennese café house style, with very good service (recently under the aegis of Grill Royal) and sometimes even exciting: background talks with politicians often take place in hidden corners. Monday to Friday from 8 am, Saturday and Sunday from 10 am. (Unter den Linden 42)
