Berlin breakfasts late, in large quantities and, preferably, all morning long. Between cafés in Charlottenburg, brunch spots in Prenzlauer Berg and small spots in Kreuzberg side streets lies one of the liveliest breakfast scenes in Europe.
We have gathered 15 spots, sorted by district, from the bagel specialist to the family café that feels like a living room. Two insider tips, one of which comes from a Berlin woman. If you’re in Berlin Mitte, on the day of the Kurfürstendamm or at BER Airport Once you’re settled in, you’ll see what’s easily accessible from your home. For later in the day, we have our own guide: Eating and drinking in Berlin.
Good morning
Croissant or Stulle. Eggs Benedict or Müsli. Six o'clock or fourteen o'clock.

There is no single breakfast hotspot in Berlin. In Mitte, brunch specialists meet Japanese-American cuisine, in the West, old café classics maintain a high standard of service, in Prenzlauer Berg, brunch newcomers from the very first week are in the top tier, in Kreuzberg, French pastry shops sit alongside Mediterranean Menemen culture. Choose the district you’re in—these are our three favorites.
Lunch, dinner and bars

30 restaurants, fine dining, street food and bars
There is a separate article for lunch, dinner and everything in between. With Berlin classics, starred restaurants, Italian and Asian cuisine and three bars for three different evening moods.
Breakfast in Berlin Mitte
Brunch, all day long
Mitte has the highest concentration of brunch spots. Established dayspots that turn into bistros in the evening meet specialists in bagels, French toast and sophisticated breakfast menus. Here you’re most likely to find a good spot spontaneously. On weekends, though, you should almost always reserve a table.
Nomad Berlin
In the front building on Borsigstraße, a small restaurant with a dual profile: in the morning and noon it is one of the most ambitious brunch concepts in Mitte; in the evening it is fine bistro-style with its own menu. French Toast with tiramisu cream and sourdough avocado toast are the bestsellers. Reservations are strongly recommended for weekends.

Insider tip
House of Small Wonder
Japanese-American · Downtown · €€
When visitors from abroad come, I take them to the House of Small Wonder. From the outside it looks inconspicuous, but inside there is a curved staircase between plants and a backyard like a conservatory. The Japanese-American menu is not available a second time in the city. Order French Toast, reserve it in advance, otherwise you’ll be left standing.
