ipartment opens the new home in Leverkusen today in a festive setting with invited guests

Cologne/Leverkusen – The leading provider of serviced apartments for long-term business stays, ipartment GmbH, continues to expand and today opens a new property in Leverkusen, directly in the „New Railway City of Opladen“. The historic „Kesselhaus“, built in 1948, was once the heart of the former railway repair plant. The focus of this renovation was the sustainable repurposing and modernization of this historic building, which also contributed to reducing CO₂ emissions as it requires less energy and resources than new construction.

„The „ipartments“ continue to develop the New Railway City of Opladen. They represent the future of living and working in an urban environment. I am pleased that our highly changed work and living environment is also reflected in exciting architecture. The “ipartments” are an important investment in the society and the future of our city,” explains Uwe Richrath, Mayor of the city of Leverkusen.

The new boiler house, including the new building, covers a total area of approximately 1,600 square meters. Of this, 32 stylish and design-oriented apartments measuring between 22 and 71 square meters have been created on 1,174 square meters.

„We are very happy that we always believed in the project and that we are able to celebrate our grand opening today! This location uniquely combines industrial history with contemporary architecture, perfectly reflecting our vision of innovative and stylish serviced apartments with design elements. Comfort, flexibility, a digital guest journey and comprehensive service round out our offering,“ says Ralph Stock, partner and CEO of ipartment GmbH.

Transformation with industrial charm and design elements

The renovation of the listed boiler house combines historical elements with modern ones, giving the building a unique character with an industrial charm. On the west side of the boiler house, the new addition was created with an impressive CORTEN facade. „This is steel that oxidizes and this rust-resistant protective layer gives the facade this unique look,“ explains Bernd Oxen, the architect of the project. This addition consists of a ground floor and four above-ground floors. Six above-ground floors were built in the boiler house. A highlight is the glass elevator that connects the historic part with the new part. Through large windows on the upper floors, one can view the old listed industrial elements and the boilers.

„After we won the competition for the boiler house, I was very happy to design the landmark for the new railway city area. I would have never believed that it would take several years to complete it at that time. That being said, I am even more pleased that it was created almost exactly as planned many years ago,“ continued architect Oxen.

In addition to the designer apartments on the upper floors, there are office and commercial units on the ground floor. The immediate proximity to the Opladen train station and the city center makes the new ipartment house particularly attractive for travelers who appreciate an urban and at the same time central location.

Living neighborhood development in Leverkusen-Opladen

The New Railway City of Opladen is a new district covering around 70 hectares, offering a harmonious combination of living, education, work, shopping, green spaces and leisure opportunities. The vibrant neighborhood around the Kesselhaus not only offers perfect access to the „Campus Leverkusen“ of the Cologne Technical University, but also a versatile range of dining options and numerous green recreational areas. The combination of historical industrial buildings and modern architecture makes the New Railway City of Opladen a successful location that combines the best of the past and the future.

„The opening of ipartment in the New Railway District in Opladen is a sign of the attractiveness of this emerging neighborhood and new hotspots in Leverkusen. The new development further strengthens the railway district and shows that there is a demand for modern, flexible living and accommodation options. We are pleased about this enrichment and are convinced that this is only the beginning of continued positive development of the railway district,“ reports Christian Zöller, Economic Development of Leverkusen.
